What a dual degree is
A dual degree lets you earn two master’s degrees at the same time, one from the Hamilton Lugar School and one from another IU school. Coursework counts toward both degrees, so you’ll finish in less time and at less cost than earning them separately.
Pairing professional training with regional and language expertise prepares you for careers in law, business, public health, policy and information science, where employers increasingly need both. We offer six dual degrees with five IU schools. Your Hamilton Lugar degree is the MA or MS in International and Regional Studies.
Dual degrees work best when you plan them early. Contact us before you apply and we’ll help you map out both programs.
Dual Degree Offerings
Master of Public Affairs
Offered with the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. For policy and public management work abroad, where knowing how a government actually runs matters as much as knowing how policy is written.
Master of Public Health
Offered with the School of Public Health. Health work is local before it is global. The same illness is handled differently from one country to the next, and the difference is usually who people trust.
Master of Business Administration
Offered with the Kelley School of Business. For working across borders, where half of any deal is the market and the other half is the country it sits in.
Master of Information Science
Offered with the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering. Prepares you for careers in data, information systems and technology policy.
Master of Library Science
Offered with the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering. Prepares you for careers in libraries, archives and special collections, including work with international and area studies materials.
Applying to both
Each pairing is two applications to two schools, and each school keeps its own deadline. Hamilton Lugar will take transcripts, letters and résumés forwarded from the other IU department, so you are not assembling the same file twice.
