Get Involved

At Hamilton Lugar, getting involved can mean helping shape the school, joining a community built around global affairs, or finding one of hundreds of organizations across IU Bloomington. You don’t need an invitation, a connection or a perfect plan. You just need a place to start.

Hamilton Lugar Student Government

If you have an idea for the school, a concern that needs to be heard or something you want students to experience, this is one place to make it move.

Hamilton Lugar Student Government connects students with faculty, departments and school administration. Students bring forward issues, build community and help shape what happens next. You aren’t just here to move through Hamilton Lugar. You can have a hand in making it better.

Elections and openings are announced on Instagram, at @hlsstudentgovernment.

Sigma Iota Rho

Doing strong work in international affairs should lead somewhere beyond a grade.

Sigma Iota Rho recognizes students who have distinguished themselves through scholarship and service, while creating more ways to connect through professional development, cultural engagement and events throughout the year. It’s a place to meet students who take global issues seriously and want to do something with what they’re learning.

Applications open once a year, in the fall. The form and the deadline go up on the chapter’s Instagram, at @sigma_iota_rho_iu.

750+ student organizations across IU Bloomington

Some are built around culture, service, politics, professional interests or identity. Others exist because a few students cared enough about one very specific thing to organize around it.

Search by what you care about. Try something outside your major. Walk into one meeting and see whether you want to come back.

Not sure where you fit yet? Ask someone.

You don’t need to scroll through hundreds of groups and work it out alone. If you know the kind of experience you want but not the name of the organization, we can help point you in the right direction.
